Want to teach science at home? Does your little scientist use a lab notebook? Lab notebooks encourage skills in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) like problem solving, collecting data, and interpreting results. Plus, they’re easy to use!
Help your child (or student) learn how to use a laboratory notebook for all of your fun science experiments!
We’ve used this template at home with our own kids, and shared with hundreds of others. It’s a basic format designed to allow your student to capture observations and answer questions. Asking questions, making observations and finding answers…that’s what science is all about, isn’t it?
Why a lab notebook for kids?
Curious youngsters naturally practice the scientific method. They love to ask “why?” Then they test their theories, draw conclusions, and repeat. Encourage a love of science in your little ones! On our Teachers Pay Teachers page (linked below), you’ll find a download for both a Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten version and an Elementary version. Select the option best suited for your student, and the download is a breeze.
How to help teach your kid science principles
You don’t need to spend hours setting up complicated experiments for your kids. Kid science should be fun! Pull out the lab notebook when your child gets curious and peppers you with “Why” questions, incorporate it into your everyday kitchen cooking, or with those Pinterest projects you’ve pinned. 🙂
The format of this notebook helps students record observations using the scientific method – similar to how they’ll conduct an experiment in a high school lab (or professional) setting. Kids naturally demonstrate the scientific method when exploring the world around them. Using this kid-friendly lab notebook will help you incorporate some structure to your kids’ STEM lessons while the littles are busy discovering.
