Here’s a fresh DIY gift idea for all you givers – an Herb Garden Starter Kit. So many of our thoughtful, creative readers are always on the hunt for great gifts.
We agree with you, friends. Beautiful, useful handmade gifts top our list of fun things to give (and receive)! A collection of handmade soaps and a fluffy hand towel, a basket of kitchen tools and a unique cookbook, unusual tea and a good book to read… Something about this type of gift just makes you feel special.
This was our first try at gifting an herb garden starter kit. What do you think? Have you gifted any herbaceous gifts?
When to gift an herb garden? Who might love it?
We made this herb garden starter kit for one of our favorite new grads who recently moved into her first apartment. She’d dropped a hint she was looking to start an herb garden, and we had it on good intelligence that she’d love some materials. Since she was just starting out with her garden, we included some basic items.
However, as we were making this gift, we couldn’t help but think it would make a really pretty gift for a housewarming, or easily modified for your favorite plant lady/foodie. Maybe for a foodie friend you’d include herbs they cook with often or would like to try, a great recipe, a beautiful wooden spoon, hand towel or a new cookbook. Maybe for your plant lady friend, you’d use a lovely ceramic pot, new gloves, or gardening tools she needs.
An Herb Garden Starter Kit – easy to do, fun to make!
This herb garden starter kit comes together quickly, and is really fun to make. (TOO fun? …we had to find a pretty big basket.) Your kit can easily be tailored to your liking.
Our herb garden starter kit included: peat pots and seeds, a variety of starter plants like thyme, basil, lavender, rosemary and sage, plant markers, garden tools, gloves and a watering can. We stayed away from ceramic pots because we thought this recipient might want to pick pots that matched her home’s colors. Instead, we wrapped the plants in plain brown paper and tied them up with colored baker’s twine.
The plants smelled so fragrant and looked wonderfully fresh. And we loved finding unique plant markers and extra goodies. We’ll be looking for a good reason to make another one of these!
